Between planned maintenance visits

Protect GC performance.

A practical cross-platform routine for earlier warning signs, fewer preventable faults and more reliable gas chromatography.

Annual servicing is one important control—not a year-round maintenance strategy.
GC systems are exposed to injections, sample residues, gas-path demands and consumable wear throughout the year. Their condition needs maintaining between service visits through routine checking, cleaning, consumable review and timely response to warning signs.

The practical GC care cycle

Select the point in the routine that applies today, then complete the checks shown.

Pause and investigate when you see:

Small changes can be the earliest indication that gas integrity, the inlet, column or detector needs attention.

Retention shiftCheck flow, leaks, column condition and method state.
Peak shape changeTailing or fronting may indicate inlet, column or activity problems.
Response lossReview inlet discrimination, leakage, detector and consumables.
Ghost peaksInvestigate syringe, inlet, column and sample carryover.
Noise or driftCheck gas quality, detector condition, contamination and leaks.
Pressure instabilityStop and investigate supply, restrictions or leakage.

Apply the routine to your instrument

The core housekeeping principles are shared. Select the manufacturer used in your laboratory to see where its guidance places particular emphasis.

These notes identify emphasis—not a substitute operating procedure. The installed model, configuration, application and current OEM instructions remain controlling.
